STARTING SALARY upwards of $39,837 plus $2,000.00 sign-on Bonus

The Police Department is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position as a full-time Police Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Patrols Town streets in radio-equipped patrol car, or on foot to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of crime and to enforce motor vehicle operation and parking regulations.

• Answers calls and complaints involving automobile accidents, robberies, and other misdemeanors and felonies.

• Performs preliminary investigation of law violations, interviews witnesses, gathers and preserves evidence, arrests law violators, commits arrested person to jail and presents testimony in court.

• Prepares daily activity reports and other detailed reports as necessary.

• Checks business establishments to prevent theft or other irregularities.

• Serves warrants, capiases and subpoenas.

• Sets up and operates electronic speed-checking device, intercepts violators and issues citations.

• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

• Possess Valid Class C NC Driver’s License. (required)

• Completion of requirements established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Council for the Basic Law Enforcement Training Certificate (BLET). (required)

Supplemental Information:

Successful completion of a physical examination including drug and alcohol screening, criminal background check, driving record, and authorization for release of information and personal history statement are required as a condition of employment.
