BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The Federal Government DLA Program Business Development Manager’s primary responsibility is to develop, maintain and grow sales with current and potential customers. The Federal Government DLA Program Business Development Manager (BDM) position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive internal and external strategic plan that would provide customers with a solution that meets their needs.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages and maintains corporate relationships and contract oversight with established government customers for DLA (Defense Logistics Agency) and other potential business development targets.
Develops a strategic program for MSC that focus on how MSC can do business as a Government Contractor for the DLA (Defense Logistics Agency)
Identifies and prioritizes, with the assistance of various functional areas, opportunities for improvement and cross functional department support for an MSC DLA Program.
Manages the development of solutions and processes to existing problems and looks towards the future to anticipate potential problems with the DLA.
Prepares and assembles RFQ proposals that address the customer’s needs within established and new DLA Contracts, RFQs, and Program Opportunities and initiatives.
Develops and fosters a team environment for all project members.
Interprets sales goals and initiatives so that priorities can be balanced and timelines established in a cost-effective manner.
Manages implementation and evaluates progress of key projects within DLA Key Sites and DLA Key Contacts.
Participates in management meetings and provides input for all government projects under discussion.
Develops training and collateral material as applicable for the DLA programs.
Manages successful utilization of the DLA program with the assistance of the field.
Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in business or the equivalent experience is required.
Minimum of seven years of business experience is required.
Direct strategic selling experience with the Federal Government Community.
Demonstrable familiarity with the DLA (Defense Logistics Agency Leadership Structure, specifically to current DLA operations.
Familiarity with the procurement process, specifically on major Federal Government contracts, including Fedmall (formerly known as DOD eMall).
Has a background with Logistics and Transportation Programs that can help build an MSC Government Program Solution for supporting the DLA (Defense Logistics Agency).
Has a demonstrated ability to build a business plan that incorporates multiple cross functional departments to help drive an MSC Federal Government Program Strategic Plan.
SKILLS:
Computer literacy and proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database software is required.
Excellent organizational and planning skills are required.
Knowledge of project management techniques and processes are required.
Business analysis experience and the ability to identify and implement improvement opportunities are required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel 50% or more of the time is required.
