The Patent Paralegal will work under the supervision of the Supervisor Patent Paralegal to provide support in all phases of the patent prosecution process (including preparing and filing documents and assistance in setting up procedures and templates).
The Patent Paralegal will also be expected to work closely with an active group of patent attorneys/agents and interact with outside legal counsel; as well as other legal groups within the Law Department. Additionally, the paralegal will be expected to contribute to administrative projects intended to develop an IP Department displaying the highest legal and ethical standards.

Managing filing logistics for any new domestic, international or foreign patent application. Filing formal documents with respective patent offices and obtaining all necessary signatures and other information for such filings (Powers of Attorney, Assignments, Declarations, Responses to Notices to File Missing Parts, Information Disclosure Statements, etc.)

Regularly interacting with respective patent offices and outside legal counsel.

Preparing, distributing and updating docket reports for attorneys/agents on a weekly basis or as requested.

Coordinating and confirming maintenance fee and annuity payments with Anaqua and outside counsel.

Maintaining and updating Invention Report Database.

Coordinating functions with the IP Docketing Group.

Providing occasional backup assistance for clerical/administrative tasks as needed.

Assist in developing best practices and internal SOPS for ensuring a high functioning IP Department.

Managing internal and external resources, as may be necessary, to fulfill the aforementioned responsibilities.


Exceptional organizational skills sufficient to manage an extensive and growing IP portfolio.

Exceptional communication skills, including interpersonal, writing and conflict resolution skills.

Ability to independently oversee paralegal matters, manage the use of resources and work collaboratively with other personnel at Regeneron.

Ability to set aggressive deadlines, handle multiple complex paralegal matters and see projects through to completion.

Be familiar with the Anaqua IP management system; otherwise ideal candidates who are unfamiliar with Anaqua but willing to learn will be considered.

Familiar with the USPTO website and other patent internet sites and tools.

Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is required.

Associates or Bachelors degree required

Four or more years of US and foreign patent paralegal experience in a law firm or in-house patent department; biotech experience a plus.
