Must be a current Broward Sheriff's Office employee in the Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services.A minimum of five (5) years of full-time paid BSO/Contract City experience in the ranks of Fire Safety Inspector assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau.Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license throughout employment without any restrictions which affect job performance.Proof of State of Florida Certified Firefighter.Proof of State of Florida Certified Fire Safety Inspector I or II.Certification by the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals as a Fire Plans Examiner.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS This promotional process will consist of the following steps: ORIENTATION SESSION: Orientation Session Date – Wednesday, August 30, 2023.Attendance is required. Detailed information regarding the Task Book assignment (see below) and all materials needed to complete the Task Book assignment will be provided.TASK BOOK ASSIGNMENT: The Task Book MUST be completed AND submitted to the Bureau of Human Resources by no later than 4:00 pm on Monday, December 11, 2023.PRIOR TO SUBMISSION TO HUMAN RESOURCES, YOUR TASK BOOK SECTIONS MUST BE SIGNED OFF BY YOUR FIRE PREVENTION LIEUTENANT. If the Fire Prevention Lieutenant is unavailable, your Battalion Chief, or Chief Hastings can sign off on your completed Task Book. It is IMPERATIVE that you plan accordingly. DO NOT wait until the Monday, December 11, 2023 4:00 pm deadline to have your Task Book signed off by command. Candidates who do not submit the completed Task Book by 4:00 pm on Monday, December 11, 2023, WILL NOT be eligible to sit for the Written Examination.WRITTEN EXAMINATION: Written Exam Date – Tuesday, January 9, 2024. ORAL INTERVIEW: Oral Interview Date – Thursday, January 18, 2024.IMPORTANT INFORMATIONYou must provide Selection and Assessment with a copy of your State of Florida Certified Firefighter AND State of Florida Certified Fire Safety Inspector I or II by the closing date even if you have provided your certificate in previous promotional opportunities.You must provide Selection and Assessment with a copy of your Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals as a Fire Plans Examiner card by the closing date even if you have provided it in previous promotional opportunities.If you are requesting Veterans' Preference, you must submit your DD-214 Member 4 form to Selection and Assessment by the closing date to be considered for preference points.EXAMINATION DESCRIPTIONThe written examination will be based upon material outlined on the reading list. Candidates who correctly answer 75% or more of the questions on the written test will be invited to participate in the next component of the assessment process which will consist of an oral interview. The promotional process will consist of the following: (1) Completion AND submission of the Task Book assignment by the due date, (2) Written Examination, and (3) Oral Interview. You will not be eligible to sit for the Written Examination unless you successfully complete AND submit the Task Book by 4:00 pm on Monday, December 11, 2023.The written examination will comprise 50% of the final score and oral interview will comprise 50% of the final score. Promotional appointments for each vacant position shall be made from the top three (3) candidates as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement between the Broward Sheriff's Office and the International Association of Firefighters, AFL-CIO, CLC Local 4321. Portions of the promotional process may be videotaped for scoring purposes and candidate feedback. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Under administrative direction, the purpose of this position is to manage subordinate personnel within an assigned fire district responsible for fire prevention inspections, fire investigations assistance, Life Safety Prevention programs, fire plans review, and fire safety work within the Fire Prevention’s Division of the Broward Sheriff’s Office Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services. Employees in this classification are responsible for managing and coordinating comprehensive municipal fire prevention and investigation programs for the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and codes as they pertain to fire safety. Position may represent the Fire Marshal at community meetings, meetings with County State, or Federal officials, or other events. Position functions as a professional and technical resource to Fire Prevention. Performs related work as directed.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Applicants who qualify will be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to evaluation of training and experience; written test; computer based test; interview; polygraph examination; psychological evaluation; employment record, fingerprint and background check; medical examination; and drug screen. The expected duration of the selection process varies by position and could last 10 to 12 weeks. Reapplication will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
