As a flight software engineer, you will have the opportunity to implement or test spacecraft capabilities including command, communication, data management, instrument managers, and fault protection. Challenge yourself with embedded development for a spacecraft. From low-level device drivers to high-level behaviors, you’ll find many exciting unique programming opportunities that can spark your creativity. Working with our team, develop software to fire thrusters, capture images on another planet, or protect the spacecraft. As part of NASA/JPL's Flight Software Applications group you will be working with a talented and supportive team, enjoying the camaraderie and satisfaction of working on groundbreaking missions.

Responsibilities:

Design and implement real-time flight software for spacecraft in C, or test the real-time flight software with Python test scripts

Develop test plans, unit tests, and evaluate test results. Run tests against simulators and testbeds

Identify and solve issues with flight software in an integrated system

Work on a team with experienced flight software developers

Qualifications:

Typically requires a Bachelor's in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or similar field with a minimum of 3 years related experience; or Master's degree in similar fields with a minimum of 1 year related experience.

Experience with significant C or C++ programming, with excellent programming skills

Multi-threaded programming

Coursework in operating systems, computer architecture, algorithms, and data structures

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with embedded real-time programming or CubeSats

Experience with VxWorks

Coursework in programming languages, software engineering, computer science theory, embedded programming
