Description
Under general supervision of a Fire Captain; performs fire suppression duties and medical pre-hospital procedures; maintains the department's facilities, equipment, vehicles and apparatus to ensure maximum operational efficiency; and performs public service through education, activities, and training programs.
Minimum Qualifications
The following certifications are required: IFSAC/ProBoard/DOD/State Firefighter I and II, Arizona State Certified Emergency Medical Technician, IFSAC/ProBoard/DOD State HazMat Operations Level. Must be able to obtain Wildland Firefighter certification within one (1) year of hire. Must be able to lift and move up to 100 lbs. and be able to pass a medical examination. Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must successfully complete a background check.

Additional Requirements:
It will be the sole responsibility of the employee to maintain, keep current and track their own certification(s) including, but not limited to: EMCT, CPR, EMT-Defib, EMT-IV, etc.

Examples of Duties
Performs a full range of fire suppression activities at the fire scene, including deploying and/or connecting hose, directing water streams, raising/climbing ladders, and utilizing equipment, such as pike poles, smoke ejectors, and forcible entry tools; operates a variety of emergency assistance equipment.
Performs a variety of emergency medical pre-hospital activities at fire, accident, or other emergency scenes; administers emergency care at the Emergency Medical Technician level.
Performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and minor repair tasks necessary to keep the fire station and related equipment clean, stored properly, and fully functional.
Performs training activities to maintain/improve fire suppression/emergency medical skills/physical conditioning.
Checks personal fire suppression gear, protective clothing, and related equipment to ensure that it is clean and fully functional.
Checks tools, equipment, supplies, and materials assigned to vehicles used to suppress fires/respond to emergency services calls to ensure that vehicles contain all required tools, equipment, supplies, and materials and that everything is clean and fully functional.
Responds to non-emergency calls by performing public assistance, support of community activities, snake removals, bee swarm control, smoke detector maintenance, and other types of support.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Other Requirements
Knowledge of emergency care, CPR, and other basic emergency medical assistance techniques.
Knowledge of fire suppression principles, methods, techniques, and practices.
Knowledge of purpose/use of various tools, equipment, and apparatus used in fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical assistance activities.
Knowledge of Ak-Chin Indian Community fire safety codes and ordinances.
Knowledge of the street names and locations in Ak-Chin and surrounding area served.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with business owners/managers, other Fire Department staff, and the public.
Skill in following complex oral and written instructions, procedures, and guidelines.
Skill in applying emergency medical assistance techniques, including emergency care and CPR.
Skill in communicating using computers, radios, and telephones.
Skill in safely and effectively operating a full range of fire suppression/emergency response apparatus and equipment.
