$2,817.64 - $3,424.86 Biweekly
$6,104.88 - $7,420.52 Monthly
$73,258.56 - $89,046.24 Annually

Salary Range with Paramedic Certification
$3,240.29 - $3,938.59 Biweekly
$7,020.61 - $8,533.60 Monthly
$84,247.34 - $102,403.18 Annually

PARAMEDIC INCENTIVE PAY:
New hires with a current Paramedic Certification will be eligible for Paramedic duty after completion of a department approved certification process with the City of National City, and will be eligible to receive an additional 15% incentive pay to their hourly base salary for as long as they maintain a current EMT-P Certification.

The City of National City is seeking highly-motivated, community-oriented women and men who desire a career in the fire service serving the City of National City.

There is currently one (1) career, full-time/benefited Firefighter position and multiple potential positions. This eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill any future vacancies that may occur within one (1) year, with the ability to extend the list for an additional year.

You must register with the FCTC in order to take the written test and CPAT. Furthermore, after taking the written test and CPAT, you must register and complete your profile on the FCTC website to be placed on the FCTC Statewide Eligibility List.

Key Responsibilities
Responds to and carries out the duties of a firefighter on fire incidents (structure, vehicles, nuisances, etc.), emergency medical incidents, vehicle accidents, industrial incidents, technical rescues (confined space, trench, swift water, high and low angle, etc.), and on responses involving hazardous materials or weapons of mass destruction.
Acquire multiple certifications when required.
Takes part in daily training exercises as well as prepares and conducts drills under the direction of a company officer.
Participates in a formal training plan with written and practical testing at 6, 12, 24 and 36-month intervals.
Under the direction of a company officer, inspects buildings and facilities targeted for special pre-fire emergency planning; may also be required to conduct formal business and life safety inspections.
Maintain personal protective and fire station equipment, facilities and grounds, and apparatus through daily, weekly, and monthly checks and upkeep.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

LICENSE: Possession of a current valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate issued by the State of California or by an EMT certifying agency approved by the State of California, County of San Diego EMT System ID Card, or Certificate for Basic Life Support for the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Provider at time of application.

NOTE: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License, at the time of appointment.

You must be on the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List. Please visit www.FCTConline.org for information on how to be placed on the FCTC Statewide Eligibility List, how to register for upcoming Candidate Physical Ability Tests (CPAT) and written tests, information about study materials and grants for testing fees. A minimum score of 70% on the FCTC written exam is required, and must have been taken within one (1) year (on or after August 28, 2022). You must have also completed the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within one (1) year (on or after August 28, 2022). Please ensure to attach a copy of your CPAT certificate to your online application.
The FCTC and CPAT requirements do not apply to candidates that have successfully completed the National City Fire Department Fire Academy. (A copy of the certficate of completion must be attached to your online application.)
You must attach a copy of your valid Emergency Medical Technician Certificate issued by the State of California or by an EMT certifying agency approved by the State of California, County of San Diego EMT System ID Card, or Certificate for Basic Life Support for the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Provider to your online application. Applications without a copy of a valid EMT card will be disqualified, regardless of the reason (e.g. awaiting receipt due to renewal process, recent testing, State issuance backlog, etc.)

HIGHLY DESIRABLES:
**Possession of a valid California Paramedic License (EMT-P) is highly desirable. **New hires with current Paramedic Certification will be eligible for Paramedic duty after completion of department approved certification process with the City of National City, and be eligible to receive an additional 15% incentive pay to their hourly base salary for as long as they maintain a valid EMT-P Certification.
Completion of an accredited Firefighter I Fire Academy is highly desirable.
Ability to: Learn technical firefighting principles and techniques; to understand and follow oral and written directions; to participate in a variety of work assignments; to function under conditions of high stress in training or emergency environments; to be part of a team, and work and live cooperatively with others.

A candidate must meet current medical and physical standards to ensure no condition exist that might adversely affect their ability to perform the duties of a National City Firefighter.

Based upon a review of applications received, those applicants who best meet the requirements indicated above will be invited to continue in the selection process. A short list of the most qualified candidates will be forwarded to the Fire Department for consideration. All notices will be sent via e-mail.
