Position Description

Over one million people enter the United States every day. As a CBP Officer, you’ll be the first to welcome, the first to assist, and the first to protect. CBP Officers are America’s first line of defense, and are responsible for determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the U.S. In this role, you will enforce customs, immigration and agriculture laws and regulations, facilitate the flow of legitimate trade and travel, and conduct inspections of individuals and conveyances. You will also prevent the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods, and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband. Additional opportunities for CBP Officers may include participating in K-9 inspection, the Special Response Team (SRT), or Anti-Terrorism Contraband Enforcement Team (A-TCET).

Basic Requirements

To be eligible for employment with CBP, applicants must:

Be a U.S. citizen
Possess a valid driver’s license
Be referred for selection prior to your 40th birthday (waiver for Veterans’ preference eligible)
Reside in the U.S. for 3 of the last 5 years (military exception)
Be eligible to carry a firearm
Pass the application process which includes a job-related medical, fitness and drug test, a background investigation, and polygraph examination
Be willing to travel; frequent travel is required both domestic and foreign Temporary Duty (TDY) assignments
